Re: Error Message

Very bad, tonight.  Trouble getting on.  When I do, I get this message:  "You do not have permission to view these forums."  However, ignoring the message, I can still log in.

Re: Error Message

Is anyone else being denied any access without logging in? I have been getting "You do not have permission to view these forums." when I go to the main page before I log on. Which means John Q. Public cannot benefit from our storehouse of knowledge without becoming a member. Is that a temporary situation while we untangle the other problem, or a new problem?

Re: Error Message

That was going on before I went and made any changes. I'm guessing tree hugger put that in place as a temporary fix.

Re: Error Message

silly question.. do you host site yourself or is there an isp? I have had this issue before also on my hosted site and issue was with them upgrading SQL server. I would suggest if this site is hosted, place a service ticket with copy of the error. the error i'm getting now from my site is below..

"This system will be back online in a moment after some brief upgrades! Thank you for your patience."

Everything I do is for my grandmother for without her, I wouldn't be here today.

Uh I didn't put anything in place like that. I'll check admin options here. I just thought that might be connected to the errors.

ETA I fixed the log in issue. Somehow the settings were changed. That's the only one I can find, but if something else comes up let me know.

Re: Error Message

This forum has slowed to a forty-day crawl. Any chance there is a DOS campaign being waged against it?

Re: Error Message

It seems to be loading fine for me. I ran some speed tests and they looked okay. I did see something funky, which may be nothing at all, emailed it to tyllyn.  He has had a program that scans us for viruses daily, and it came up clean this morning, so I dunno what's up. hmm

Re: Error Message

Good to hear of no complaints. For some reason on of the indexing database tasks (basically what makes the searches work) got caught up in itself and was hogging all sorts of database resources.

Let me know if things get goofy again. smile

Realized that I never answered this question. The sites are hosted at Linode. Linode gives you a virtual machine - basically a chunk of a server that acts as a server on its own. I have full control of it, and tweak it as much as needed. I've had not-the-best experience with other more managed hosts (dreamhost and 1&1 are great, don't get me wrong, but they weren't my cup of coffee). Using Linode has, I'll admit, been a struggle, especially since I'm coming from a development background, without systems administration experience, but I've learned so much by having to configure every little thing. smile
